SPANISH LESSONS

You can study in small groups or individually. We teach Spanish to student(s) from a beginner level to an advanced level, constantly updating materials we use in class and exploring new ways to explain or practice grammar to give the students a pleasant experience while learning the language.

According to your level:

Our aim is that you, from the first day of lessons, learn to face daily situations using Spanish with confidence. The lessons therefore are given in Spanish by native speakers.

To gain more confidence and to immerse you into the language and culture you can stay with a local family, do voluntary work or a study related internship.

You will receive Spanish lessons according to your level. By giving you an assessment examination, both oral and written, we test your current level. Your progress is evaluated at the end of every week.

Methods and Materials:

We provide you with a handout (on the average a 20 - 25 page document) at the start of every cluster of grammar items. These handout are dynamic and active. Some grammar items are presented top down (first grammar then practice) or the other way around, incorporating different learning styles. You also receive a notebook and a pen.

The objective is not only that you have a good understanding of grammar, but also that you know how to use it while writing, speaking and reading.

Speaking: A very important objective of the lessons is that you use the grammar learned to have conversations in the streets. Teachers will use materials, roll plays and activities to make you talk about different subjects, using all the grammar you've had before.

Reading: You get to read articles, literature, fairy tales, and more... out loud. This will improve your pronunciation and you will learn new vocabulary. These reading texts are also used to open up discussions and opportunities to talk.

Listening: The lessons are given in Spanish, so you will be immersed from day 1. Materials to improve your listening skills are songs, filling in the missing words, recorded fairy tales or video's. All these materials are used to practice specific grammar subjects and also serve to open up discussions.

Writing: Your writing skills are tested while making exercises in class, writing short stories or making homework.

sustainable Spanish classes

The “Sustainable Spanish Classes” are Spanish classes taught by mothers who have been trained for a long time by our academic coordinator, by taking these classes you will be helping local homes.

Spanish classes in the Sacred Valley

The Spanish classes in the Sacred Valley are totally different from the classes in the city, you will be in a small town where you can feel the tranquility, surrounded by mountains and learn more about the Andean culture.

The Spanish classes will be given by mothers of families who have been trained by our academic coordinator, by taking these Spanish classes you will be helping several homes in the town

Group Classes

On the first day of classes students are provided with an orientation seminar and placement testing is administered.  The free written assessment exam begins from easy to difficult and lasts 20 – 30 minutes.

The placement testing is to group the students based on their level of comprehension and exposure to the Spanish Language.

Group classes are given to a maximum of 6 persons, to ensure individual attention as well as the positive aspects of group interaction, such as the possibility to learn from other students' questions and dynamics such as role playing or games used by the teacher.

Group classes start on Mondays until Friday and are 4 60-minute-hours a day, so 20 hours per week.

They can take place in the morning from 8:30 to 12:50, with a break from 10:30 to 12:50,

or in the afternoon from 14:00 to 18:20, with a break from 16:00 to 16:20, depending on your level.

Structure

Normally the first hour of lessons is used to go over the items learned the day before and to check your homework.

The second hour of class, a new grammar item is introduced.

After the break, the following two hours consist of practice, using the new grammar learned in conversation, listening, reading and writing. The teachers use different teaching materials for this such as texts, audio / visual materials, games, etc.

Group lessons have a fixed structure, with every day a new grammar item. Every week we offer different groups at different levels.

Individual classes

Individual classes are more flexible, you can take 2 or 4 hours a day, some or all days of the week. The classes will be tailor-made according to your wishes. Individual lessons are a good option;

  • If you want to review specific grammar items
  • If there is a big difference between your oral and your written level
  • If you want to prepare for an international Spanish exam, such as DELE
  • If you are a professional and you want to learn specific vocabulary, such as a technical or medical.
  • If you do not have time to study from Monday until Friday.

We also teach Spanish to children from 6 to 14 years old in a special and individual way, using games, drawings and fairy tales.

On Saturday mornings you can do individual lessons as well!!

Semi-individual lessons

Apart from individual and group lessons you can take semi-individual lessons.

Semi-individual lessons are possible if you are a group of friends or a couple. They are organized for 2 individuals minimum, who have the same level. These lessons are as flexible as individual lessons, meaning that you can agree on how many hours, which days you would like to study and on a focus.

----

A combination of group classes and individual classes, is also possible. For example;

- the first 2 weeks in a group and the second 2 weeks individual.

- or in the morning 4 hours of group lessons and in the afternoon 2 hours of individual lessons. During these extra individual lessons the teacher can focus on vocabulary, or go over items you already done during the group lessons.

Students can decide every week which type of lessons fits best their individual needs.

How many weeks?

If you are a beginner, we recommend a 2 week period, 40 hours of classes.

Within this period you'll learn the Spanish alphabet, pronunciation rules, every day and useful vocabulary, personal pronouns, the articles, nouns, both gender, singular and plural, the adjectives, the difference between ser and estar (two verbs that express to be), difference between haber and estar, present time, regular and irregular verbs, comparatives, the perfect and the imperfect time (two past tenses).

If you study 4 weeks you have a good understanding of the different modos (groups of verb times) of the Spanish language (there are about 14 different tenses).

When you have already studied Spanish, we perform a placement test to assess your grammar level first. Then we can check which group suits you and give you an estimate of progress you can make given the time you have.

Teachers

We are very proud of the teachers working at the school. Creating a good working spaces is very important to us, as it directly effects the quality of the lessons.

Our courses are taught by teachers who speak Spanish as a native language to assure effective and fast learning.

The objective is that you speak as much Spanish as possible.

The teachers have a good understanding of the English language to help you get started with the basic vocabulary.

Teachers are contracted full-time to ensure quality. Thus, they have a lot of experience with different students with different learning types.

To insure uniformity, teachers all have completed an in house training program.

The teachers are rotated every week.  Therefore, you have the opportunity to experience different teaching styles and will be able to share different subjects of conversation (vocabulary). Nevertheless, you can ask for more time with the same teacher, if you find his or her teaching style more appropriate to your learning needs.
